About this event
Shankara is a Tamil-American musician whose songs marry Indian melodies with contemporary songwriting.
Born in California, he grew up hearing his family's collection of Indian classical cassettes tapes, and taught himself guitar by jamming the Beatles and Grateful Dead while studying at Berkeley. More recently, his soulful piano covers of 80s and 90s Tamil songs have gained significant traction on social media. Shankara seeks to synthesize these classic influences, and his reflections on modern life, into his own compositions.
His debut EP, En Kadhalum, explores themes of relationships, family, and taking risks for what you love. Each song centers intimately around Shankara with a guitar or piano, and builds a story around it.
This special evening, curated by Bhavya on Broadway on April 4th, invites you to step into Shankara’s world, where melodies linger in the heart, rhythms carry you away, and songs stay with you long after the last note fades.
