MOTHER TONGUE MUSIC PRESENTS: LIVE SESSIONS
After the success of our listening sessions, we’re expanding into live performance.
LIVE SESSIONS is a new Mother Tongue Music showcase for unique artists working in the counterculture; artists creating their own language, outside the mainstream.
For our debut session:
ARJUN CHANDRAN — THE SILKEN BRAIN
The Silken Braid is a musical performance piece that ties together stories lived and uncovered along the travels of an unaligned musician across the landscape of modern India.
The stories are set to pieces of music that were composed during these journeys, reflecting the cultural norms of the towns and villages that they were created in, and they uncover the movement of sounds, stories and ideas that traveled into India along the Ancient Silk Road.
The Silken Braid weaves together tales of historical and mythical figures with the everyday experiences and encounters of common folk, as experienced by an itinerant musician in search of a culture to call his own.
The performance is approximately 75 minutes long and performed on 12 string resonator guitar.
